FACULTY
The composition of the faculty reflects the program's commitment
to emergency medicine. The hospitals have recruited nationwide to
build leading academic departments in emergency medicine. Faculty
members carry full-time academic appointments at Harvard Medical
School and actively participate in medical student teaching. Core
faculty members are board-certified specialists in emergency medicine,
graduating from many of the leading training programs in the country.
One-third is double-boarded in emergency medicine and internal medicine,
pediatrics or surgery.
Faculty members are known for their expertise in airway management,
pediatric emergency medicine, emergency ultrasound, coronary syndromes,
violence, prehospital care, asthma, medical education, and international emergency medicine, among
many other topics. This is reflected by the faculty's activities
at a national level. Faculty are represented on editorial boards
of peer review journals and of major emergency medicine textbooks.
The faculty serve as speakers and committee members in societies
such as the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Society
for Academic Emergency Medicine, the American Academy of Emergency
Medicine and the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians.
RESIDENTS
The composition of the residents at the BWH/MGH Harvard Affiliated
program reflects a commitment at the highest levels, to bring together
a group of highly accomplished individuals into an atmosphere of
collegiality and academics conducive to the learning of the fundamentals
of clinical emergency medicine. In addition, a strong research emphasis
at the program provides unparalleled opportunities for the residents
to pursue their basic science and clinical research interests in
a supportive environment.
Our residents hail from all across the United States and indeed,
the world. We are proud to have such a diverse group of individuals
all working towards the same goals of excellence in patient care,
commitment to the acquisition of a core fund of emergency medicine
knowledge, and advancement through cooperation.
Socially, the residents keep active. Orientation events initiate
the activities, and festivities continue at the annual fall retreat,
the December holiday parties and at the end-of-the-year graduation
dinner. In between, journal club - although educational - is also
a monthly social event. HAEMR residents tend to be a close-knit,
energetic group.
