STRATUS

The STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation located at BWH includes a microsimulation lab (computer-based patient simulations) that focus on cognitive and algorithmic learning e.g. ATLS and ACLS, an advanced skills laboratory (including pediatric and adult difficult airway mannequins, IV and IO line placement models, central lines, chest tubes, and arrhythmia generation-defibrillation stations), and two high-fidelity human patient simulation suites.

Our academic curriculum incorporates active learning methods that include seminar-based teaching, small group learning, mock oral board testing, and, most importantly, simulation-based education. Residents integrate their EM knowledge; learn procedural and communication skills, and practice team management and organization using different models of patient simulation. Although developed and led by members of the Emergency Medicine faculty, STRATUS is used by the majority of departments and divisions of BWH, as well as local, national, and international simulation enthusiasts.

The ED-based lab for MGH-Affiliated Simulation Training in Emergency Resuscitation concentrates on individualized performance assessment using a single, high-fidelity patient simulator. The lab, located in the MGH faculty offices, is used by students, residents and staff across the institution. The MGH ED simulation program is part of a comprehensive new plan to expand simulation efforts across the institution, including the central simulation and learning center on the main hospital campus.

Through medical simulation, you dont just learn about vital EM procedures, you live them.
